Basic Function of the Position:

The Residential Plumber works in the Facility Management section of the U.S. Embassy, Islamabad. The incumbent is responsible for scheduled and unscheduled plumbing preventive maintenance and repair work on mission buildings and facilities, including residential owned and leased properties. This includes repairing and installing plumbing systems supporting various systems such as plumbing building and mechanical systems, potable water treatment and storage, wastewater treatment, fire sprinkler, swimming pool, and landscape irrigation. Additionally, the incumbent assists in preparing documents for maintenance, repair, and renovation, including soliciting and monitoring contractors.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of building plumbing and mechanical systems and utility treatment operations is required.
  • Education: Completion of Secondary School (10 years of education) certificate is required, or completion of vocational training from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level technicians with specialization in the HVAC field is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of plumbing and mechanical systems, fixtures, water treatment, potable water and wastewater treatment plant, swimming pools, fire sprinkler systems, including sensors, alarms, building automation systems, hydronic systems, and water heaters.
  • Knowledge of minor component replacement of motors, valves, pumps, controls, and recording instruments.
  • Knowledge of testing procedures in control devices to monitor, diagnose faults, determine current operating capacity to the design requirements, all in accordance with U.S. and host country regulations.
  • Knowledge of reading and working from engineering drawings, specifications, and material lists.

Language:

  • Level II (Limited Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of English.
  • Level III (Good Working Knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing of Urdu.
  • English language skills may be tested.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Communication and interpersonal skills to answer queries from end-users.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, work under pressure, and a tight schedule.
  • Flexible approach to work shifts and answer emergency calls at all hours.
