Summary:
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services and patient care in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. They follow established nursing processes, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, ensuring adherence to hospital or department, university policies, and nursing procedures, standards, and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, professional nursing care to a specified population of patients in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
- Perform evaluation of new and existing patients to determine priority, suitability of treatment, and need for modifications.
- Administer prescribed medications, apply sterile dressings, perform phlebotomy, and monitor vital signs.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
- Perform specialized nursing procedures related to the unique needs of a particular patient population if required.
- Oversee and guide the work of other nursing and support staff.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program.
- Two years minimum previous experience required.
- Certification/Licensure:
- State of Pakistan Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with Pakistan.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
- Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care programs.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
- Knowledge of clinical and/or surgical facilities, instruments, and equipment.
- Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids.
- Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
- Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
Conditions of Employment:
- CPR Certification must be obtained within 2 weeks of the date of hire.
- Successful candidates must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- IV Certification within 6 months of hire may be required for some positions in this classification, depending on the individual needs of the department.
- Employees providing services or working in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Moderate physical activity, handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
